Pokemon TCG Online- 2013 Updates

Hachi

TCGOlogoA few weeks ago, Pokemon Trading Card Game Online added daily log-in rewards, giving you the chance to receive free booster packs as well as earn gold which at the moment, does not have a function.

Well, it sounds like all that is about to change as an official statement was released yesterday during a long maintenance outlining the Pokemon Company International’s plans for The Pokemon TCG Online. Not only will the gold be usable to “Buy most cards” as they put it, but you will also have the option of buying Gems, which will work as a secondary in-game currency that will require money to purchase. Currently the only way to get booster codes is by buying physical booster packs, trading for them, or buying them second-hand and hoping that they haven’t been used yet. The Pokemon Company International also working on revamping The Trainer Challenge, which will feature new levels of difficulty for players of all skill levels, as well as better rewards. …The current roadmap for 2013 contains a number of game updates, including Gems, online Tournaments, more uses for Trainer Tokens, and Trainer Challenge enhancements. In the coming months, Prof_Mathis will provide more details on these features, but here is a small taste of what they’ll bring to the game.

One of our goals for 2013 is to offer more ways to obtain items for the Pokémon TCG Online. Gems will make it convenient to obtain items when you don’t have access to code cards. You will be able to purchase Gems with real money and redeem them for digital items, such as booster packs, theme decks, avatar gear, game coins, card sleeves, playmats, and more.

Thanks the recently released Daily Login Bonus, you will begin earning Trainer Tokens faster. This will be of great benefit when we add items to the shop that can be redeemed using Trainer Tokens, including cards. As a result, improving your decks will be easier because almost every card will be available using Trainer Tokens, including Rares and Holos.

We’re also hard at work on Tournaments. When added to the game, scheduled tournaments will have entry requirements for participation and will offer prizes for the top players. Those prizes will include booster packs, Trainer Tokens, and unique digital items. We hope to introduce Tournaments for testing in the first half of the year.

As an entry point to the Pokémon TCG Online, the Trainer Challenge will be enhanced in the coming year, with updated decks for the computer-controlled Trainers. We will improve the difficulty system, to offer better challenges for players of all skill levels. In addition, we are improving the replay experience and beefing up the rewards for playing the Trainer Challenge. We think you’ll find it very rewarding to tackle the Trainer Challenge again after these improvements are implemented.

This is just a taste of the things to come in 2013!…

635630_20111214_screen001The game is still in beta, but things seem to be shaping up nicely. There is a bit of an uproar about the way booster credits will be handled from now on though. Starting with Plasma Storm, coming out in less than a week, you will no longer get a booster credit and the ability to choose which set your booster credit will go towards, and instead it will automatically reward you with a booster pack from the same set the code came in. However, credit hoarding has been a big problem so this seems like the right move to take, at least from a business perspective. We are also seemingly gaining the ability to buy single cards now, which I think more than makes up for the change in the booster pack credit procedure.

So, does this sound promising?

i find it good for new players who don’t want to, or can’t pay real money for cards. the turnament will be also a good addition, especially for people like me, who don’t have tournaments is their area. i’m psyched up!

i’m happy to finally know that this game is progressing .. i started to dislike ptcg online because there were so few options to get new cards. Now that i know that it’s going to get easyer to “catch em all” i’ll be happy to keep playing :)
