With the announcement of the Legendary Treasures TCG Expansion, we’ve found out that the Pokemon TCG won’t be following in the footsteps of it’s video game counterpart and syncing up release with the US and Japan. That means we won’t be seeing the Pokemon X and Pokemon Y Base set until the beginning of next year, but that doesn’t seem to stop them from throwing some teasers our way. First, the announcement of a Triple Blister that comes with a Collector’s Pin of your favorite Kalos starter. The Triple blisters have steadily become harder to find than before, so if you live in an area that still stocks them regularly, don’t miss the chance to grab them.
The addition of the Fairy type has been confirmed for the Pokemon Trading Card Game. The last time a new typing was introduced was Dragon back in the fall of last year through the Dragon Vault mini-set. Though before that, the Trading Card Game’s typing remained mostly untouched since Generation II with the addition of Darkness and Metal types to the game in the Neo Genesis set in 2000.
Dragon types are only weak against themselves, similar to psychic-types back in the first generation of cards. The addition of Fairy type makes a lot of sense, though it is still unclear if a new corresponding energy type will be added. Dragon did not get their own energy, instead requiring usually strange combinations of energy’s to power up their attacks, such as a Lightening energy with a Water energy, or a Fire energy and a Psychic energy. The beginning of the Pokemon X and Y generation of cards would be an ideal place to introduce both new types to the game which would help make the Dragon type (and most likely fairy) more relevant.

Every year the Trading Card Game has an annual rotation. For those who might not know, rotation is when where olders sets are no longer legal to use in what’s known as the Modified format, which is also the format which all sanctioned tournament play uses. Right now, every set of Black and White cards are legal to play, but on August 28th, 2013 Only the format will officially cut three sets out of the current rotation: Black & White, Emerging Powers, and Noble Victories. There was also mention of a new format being introduced alongside the usual modified format rotation, coming next year at the beginning of the 2015 season that will widen the card pool considerably. What does this all mean? Take the jump for more information.

Today the ninth expansion of the Pokemon Trading Card Game Black & White series is now available in stores. Like Plasma Storm, the last expansion that came out in February, it prominently features Team Plasma Pokemon that sport blue boarders instead of the traditional gold. The Expansion introduces over 120 new cards, 30 of them being Team Plasma cards, including powerful trainers that will give Plasma Pokemon a real edge in battle.
One item card called Team Plasma Badge has to power to officially turn any Pokemon in the current format into a Team Plasma Pokemon as long as that badge is attached to it. This works well with the much anticipated Deoxys EX and it’s Ability Power Connect, which adds 10 more damage to your Team Plasma Pokemon attacks (except for Deoxys). It might not seem like much at first, but if Deoxys Decks can set up quickly and get all 4 on the bench and stack those abilities that’s a whopping 40 extra damage per Attack. Take into consideration with the ever present force in the meta game right now, Hypnotoxic Laser (A trainer card that not only poisons your opponents Pokemon, but can also put them to sleep with a coin flip) and Virbank City Gym which adds 2 extra damage counters between turns if a Pokemon is poisoned, and it’s suddenly getting much easier to take down a completely healthy EX Pokemon with high HP in just one turn.
