Release Date: NA – Mar. 14, 2010
Developer: Game Freak
Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver are the third releases for the Nintendo DS in the Fourth Generation of the Pokémon handheld games (following Diamond, Pearl and Platinum). The legendary iconic Pokémon in HeartGold is Ho-Oh and is Lugia in SoulSilver. These games are enhanced remakes of the original Pokémon Gold and Silver versions released in 1999.
The games are set in the Johto region and then, after the Elite Four is beaten, the Kanto region. In these games the first Pokémon in your party follows you as you go about your journey. The style of the games is greatly improved, being complete and further enhanced by technological advances and features. The idea of the game is still the same though; work your way through various gym battles to become the champion in both the Johto and Kanto regions. The final goal is also pretty much the same as the previous releases, by catching, logging and raising your Pokémon to become a Pokémon Master and complete the PokéDex.
The game came with a new device called the Pokéwalker. The Pokéwalker is a pedometer device where you can transfer a Pokémon from your game onto the device, allowing you to walk with your Pokémon without needing the game. As you walk, your Pokémon can interact with others, level up, catch other Pokémon, and collect new items.
