Yes! You are seeing this right! Mewtwo will be returning to the fray in Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS! Mewtwo was announced at the very end of the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U 50-Fact Extravaganza as a playable fighter, however there is a slight catch involved (no pun intended)…

I am not usually a fan of talking about rumors, but within the last several hours one either one of the biggest developments in the history of the Pokemon Franchise, or the biggest hoax we have seen has spread through the Pokemon Community like wildfire. Two promotional posters for the upcoming Pokemon Movie in Japan have supposedly leaked, featuring what looks like an alternative Mewtwo form. There has been speculation through the Pokemon Community since the reveal of Mewtwo in the movie because of the noted lack of a Gen VI star. Usually there is a movie that bridges the current and next generation of Pokemon together, but as time goes on there seems to be no sign of another featured Pokemon in the movie besides swarm of Genesect and Mewtwo. However, the tagline has been hinting that we don’t know the “true” Mewtwo, which considering we know the entire back story of Mewtwos existence it seems unlikely they meant it in a strictly metaphorical back story type of way. There has been a lot of speculation about Mewtwo receiving a new Forme, finally fulfilling some infamous rumors. That’s right, we might finally be getting Mewthree.
Most of the fanbase is most familiar with the Pokemon anime’s interpretation of Mewtwo’s story. The 150th Pokemon was the antagonist in the very first Pokemon Movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back. At the beginning of the Movie, we see Mewtwo gaining consciousnesses behind a glass tube. Dr. Fuji, the head scientist of the cloning project responsible for Mewtwo’s creation, explains to the Pokemon that it is a cloned specimen of a long extinct Mew. Quickly putting two and two together, Mewtwo realizes that it is no more than an experiment to its creators and destroys the lab, including everything and everyone in it.
